Matters of the Heart

A handmade Valentine is a precious gift to that someone special. In this live, recorded session, I will share multiple techniques for expressive, original designs you can use to create those special messages. All levels are welcome to attend.

• Black paper like Strathmore Artigan, Canson or other black heavier weight cardstock. White watercolour paper, 140lb Hot Press or Cold Press. Sheets size no smaller than 8” x10”. Practice paper of your choice for experimentation.
• Favorite broad-edge pens in smaller sizes i.e., Brause or Tape ½ mm or ¾ mm, 1 mm and a larger size ie, Speedball C2 or equivalent in another nib brand.
• A round size 5 or 6 or ½” flat paint brush for doing some simple brush strokes.
• Paint: A couple of reds and a pink gouache of your choice. Either pan or tube. Some watercolours, alizarin crimson or other favorite reds, and a pink. White Gouache.
• Fine line markers, like Faber Castell sizes: F or 03, 04 or equivalent in other brands like Micron.

Other ink: a metallic ink or paint. I used Dr. Ph Martin’s Iridescent colours (Rose Lame or gold) or DalerRowney Liquid acrylic metallic colours, such as gold. Optional: gel pens.

Optional: For those who have some calligraphic skills:

• Favorite broad-edge pens, one in smaller sizes, ½ mm or ¾ mm, or equivalent in your favorite brand. A larger size nib, like a Speedball C2 or equivalent in another nib brand.
• Experience with broad-edged pens and using mediums is an asset, but not required for this class.
